Community art installation with Revital Grun
Zichron Yaakov public library December 2011-February 2012
This is an art installation of more than 1000 butterflies made with the children from the local community ages 5-10 (including children with specialneeds).
Using recycled encyclopedias we have folded butterflies later dipped in wax. All hung in a void open to the sky in the local public library.
Dipping the butterflies in wax was not only an ecological solution for making the paper waterproof, it gave the butterflies quolities that were very different from using just paper. They became translucent, brittle yet strong, smooth, and colorful.
We have worked with different groups of kids; each group was given a different color so the children could identify themselves within the cloud of butterflies. from a distance they are a flock of fragile butterflies in motion, looking closely one can see the beauty of each individual butterfly.
